DLHS members and the ‘Helping Hands’ group from Church of Latter-day Saints spent all day on Saturday trimming hedges, strimming grass and clearing rubbish from the Lower Chapel Graveyard.

The day started with the delivery of a skip kindly donated by Frank Barnes, we then got stuck in using tools donated by Gibson’s Hardware Store.

Alden Willis, from the Helping Hands Group arrived with 7 members of the LDS Church; they had to split the group to do a Helping Hands project at Pleasington Cemetery, so there were fewer than expected. Everyone worked extremely hard.

By mid-day we had half of the graveyard done and uncovered a number of graves ready for the survey.

A lunch was provided by Dot Waring and refuelled us to continue with the rest of the clean up.

By 3.00pm everyone was starting to flag and we decided to call it a day, the working group achieved a great deal throughout the day and was enjoyed by everyone.

DLHS would like to thank David Spencer, Alden Willis, Mark Barnes (Frank Barnes Skip Hire) and Louise from the Frederick Street Office, Dot for the food, Gibson’s Hardware Shop Darwen and all those who gave up their time on the day.

THANK YOU.
